Welcome Spring,Welcome Life!

AFFIRMATIONS
Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams
Medicinecards.com

The Medicine Cards are very useful for all kinds of guidance, helping you connect to NATURE'S RHYTHM, which is innately connected to your own. Anytime I do a reading with them, I take notes. What I've started doing is writing those notes in first-person, affirmation-form.  That has only increased their power and it helps hold the message clearly in my memory as I proceed throughout the day / week / month. Today, I meditated on what energy would be useful to YOU, my circle of students, clients, friends and extended family. I pulled TURTLE ~ which is Mother Earth that reminds us that it is time to connect with your core values, that which is truly important to you, on the most practical and deepest soul levels.  It is time to focus your attention, direct your energies and use your precious resources wisely.

Turtle ~  Mother Earth  ~ In Native American teachings, TurtleIs the oldest symbol for planet Earth. It is the personification of goddess energy, and the eternal Mother from which our lives evolve.
We are born of the womb of Earth, and to her soil our
bodies will return. In honoring the Earth we are asked by Turtle to be mindful of the cycle of give and take, to give back to the Mother as she has given to us.  Turtle has a shell which is similar to the protection that Earth has employed for centuries as her body has been defiled. Mother Earth’s protection has come in the form of Earth changes, new plant growth, the creation of new land masses by volcanoes, and climate alterations. Like Turtle, you also have shields that Protect you from hurt, envy jealousy, and the unconsciousness of others.

Turtle teaches you, through its habit patterns, how to use protection. If you are bothered by the actions or words of others, it is time to go inside yourself and honor your feelings. If you are attacked, it is time to give a warning snap. If you have chosen the Turtle symbol, you are being asked to honor the creative source within you, to be grounded to the Earth, and to observe your situation with motherly compassion. Use the water and earth energies, which represent Turtle’s two homes, to flow harmoniously with your situation and to place your feet firmly on
the ground in a power stance.

Turtle is a fine teacher of the art of grounding. You may even be able to overcome some of your “space cadet” tendencies if you align with Turtle medicine. In learning to ground, you are placing focus on your thoughts and actions and slowing to a pace that assures completion.

Turtle warns of the dangers of “pushing the river”, as evidenced by the plodding pace it keeps. The corn that is harvested before its time is not yet full. However, if it is given the chance to develop at its own rate, in its own season, its sweetness will be shared by all.

Turtle buries its thoughts, like its eggs, in the sand, and allows the Sun to hatch the little ones. This teaches you to develop your ideas before bringing them out in the light. Look at the old fable of the tortoise and the hare, and decide for yourself whether or not you would like to align with Turtle. Bigger, stronger, and faster are not always the best ways to get to a goal. When you arrive, you may be asked where you’ve been and you may not be able to remember. In that case, arriving prematurely can make you feel very immature.

If you draw the Turtle card, it augurs a time of connecting with the power of Earth and the Mother-Goddess within. This is a reminder of the ally you have in Mother Earth. It does not matter what situation you have created: ask her for assistance, and abundance will follow.

CONTRARY: If you are operating from Shadow ...

Pulling the Turtle card in the reverse means that Mother Earth is calling you to
reconnect in some way. If you have become flippant and forgotten to place waste
in its proper place instead of throwing it out the car window, she is calling. If you
have felt alone in your time of need, she is calling. If you have been struggling
financially or have little to eat, or if  you have desired a child and see no pregnancy
in the near future, she is your medicine - use it. You are not alone ... ever. You are
a child of Earth. All acts of pleasure, joy, and abundance are given by the Mother of
he creative force. Use her energy to aid you, and you will be healed enough to
share this energy with others. The idea of a Turtle helplessly trying to right
itself after it has been flipped upside down can also symbolize CONTRARY:
If you are operating from Shadow ... Turtle. You are not a victim, and you are not
helpless, no matter how much it may seem like this is the case in your present
situation. To right the ill-dignified Turtle, you need only list the things you are grateful
for, and from that grste from that grateful place in your heart, look for the
abundance of alternatives that Mother Earth gives.

VeganRicans, Enjoy

WHY VEGAN RICANS?

My Photo
Vegans because we don't need dead animal flesh inside our bodies it depletes our vitality, our mental powers and make us feel exhausted. We don't want to support factory farms and their unnecessary process of killing millions of animals for food. "Ricans" because we're native Puerto Ricans people who were born and raised in the Caribbean island, Puerto Rico "La isla del Encanto" which means "The Island of Enchantment".

The Vernal Equinox 2012

Spring Begins in the Northern Hemisphere on March 20, 2012, at 1:14 A.M. (EDT).
The season brings increasing daylight, warming temperatures, and the rebirth of flora and fauna.
The word equinox is derived from the Latin words meaning “equal night.” The spring and fall equinoxes are the only dates with equal daylight and dark as the Sun crosses the celestial equator. At the equinoxes, the tilt of Earth relative to the Sun is zero, which means that Earth’s axis neither points toward nor away from the Sun.
The Spring Goddess celebrates the turning of the wheel of the year as the death and decay of winter gives way to a time of renewal and rebirth. Spring begins with the first green shoots and explodes into a multitude of beautiful blossoms and promise of good harvest. In ancient times many festivals were held to celebrate the Spring Goddesses who were associated with flowering, growth and fertility of the land. Spring is about self love and the love of the planet. Plant your dream seed, nurture it, with every breath give it life and make it a realty.

There is a Puerto Rican Taino legend about lovers from rival tribes. Their love was not accepted by their family and friends. She was being force to marry another and he was never to see her again. With lovers heart's they asked the gods to  found a way to escape both time and culture. He became a Puerto Rican Emerald hummingbird / the Zumbadorcito de Puerto Rico and she a red flower, forever to be attracted to each other.  The Taino Indians also take the hummingbird to be a sacred pollinator, whose mission is to bring an abundance of new life.   Han Han Katu - So Be It!

From Dr. Hass

10 Tips for Personal Survival and Preparation for Disaster

1. Toxicity. Overall, use fewer chemicals and toxins. Eat wholesome, fresh food, (as organic whenever possible); drink good water (filtered in some way to remove chemicals and potential pathogens -- for specifics, see chapter 1 of Staying Healthy with Nutrition); and use more natural products for your body and your home in regards to skin and hair care and home cleaning supplies. Use less electricity by turning off (and unplugging where appropriate) appliances and lights when not in use. Less exposure to EMFs (electro-magnetic fields) allows the body to circulate its own energy better, sleep, and function better, and using less lowers our monthly bill and lessens electricity use.
2. Relationships. Keep positive and balanced relationships in your life, with your spouse or sweetheart, family members, neighbors, work associates. Stay connected to yourself and others! And cultivate relationships with people who you can support and who support you back. Love for others and a positive feeling of community are vital to staying healthy for most of us humans. And if you have a special pet that has a place in your home and heart, look at what their needs are as you review the following tips. Do you maintain the supplies that they need too?
3. Stress Issues. Look at how you create and are impacted by stress in your life. I believe that: Stress is the result of how we relate to others and our world, or more likely, Stress is the result of how we react to life events. It is not the events themselves, but our reaction to them.
--Look at your attitude and your ability to relate
--Express your ideas and feelings
--Realize that there is a big difference in reacting and responding. Reaction is a defense, whereas response suggests that we have received, processed the information within us, and then responded appropriately.
--Take time to BE, not just DO.
4. Home Preparedness. Evaluate your home. Do you have the supplies that you need for all household members (even add a guest) should there be any local disaster or loss of electricity, heat and/or water. Here are a few ideas for household preparation:
--Water (1 gal per person per day and Food (canned items, dried items)
--First-aid Kit can include Band-aids, antibiotic ointment, gauze and tape, aspirin or pain reliever, and homeopathic Arnica Montana for injuries.
--Propane stove and pots for cooking
--Recycled paper products for eating and cleaning
--Blankets and clothes, goggles and masks for air protection
--Sanitation Products (made from recycled paper also)
--Flashlight and batteries (or non-battery LED lights), portable radio, matches, etc. For a solar powered LED flashlight with extra gadgetry and uses, visit: http://www.quakekare.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=57
--For a more detailed list, see Emergency Disaster Supplies on www.getreadymarin.org
--Keep copies of all important documents (and some cash) in a single box, bag, or briefcase for easy and rapid transport. These can be kept close to your first-aid kit and other emergency supplies. Also keep separate copies offsite, such as in a safety deposit box or mailed to a family member or friend who lives at least 100 miles away.
--Develop and distribute to those in your home and office a pocket-sized list of the top things to be sure to do in the event of a disaster. This would be the first thing to do in a disaster: Pull out the list and simply DO what it says to do, such as turn off the gas lines, check status of all people who should be accounted for, etc.
--Regarding personal supplies, be aware of what you have and their expiration dates. Make sure they stay fresh and usable by replacing when needed. Make an investment and update your supplies several times a year.
5. Automobile Preparedness. Evaluate and prepare your car in case you get stuck away from home. A longer one is available on www.getreadymarin.org, the look Car Kit page.
--1-2 gallons of water (may want to store in glass, protected)
--Snack foods and some cash ($50 or more)
--First-aid kit and toilet paper
--Flashlight and batteries
--Walking/hiking shoes and extra clothes
--Flares, matches and tools
--Heavy gloves and blanket or sleeping bag
--Keep your gas tank more than full
6. Office Preparedness. Suggest meetings at work to look at emergency situations. How is the office prepared to handle isolation and disaster? Who is in charge of this? Is there a backup generator and necessary supplies to support everyone in the office, such as stored water, food, blankets, etc? You could personally have the supplies you need in a big plastic waterproof bag with a few snacks, bottle or two of water, a blanket, comfortable walking shoes, flashlight and batteries, and a portable radio for starters.
7. Medications and Personal Supplies. What about any required medicines or nutritional supplements that you depend upon? Keep some extra supplies of items that you cannot do without just in case. One problem with prescription medications is that insurance companies typically allow only 30-day supplies and you cannot get a refill until right before you are out. Check your insurance plan, and many have 90-day supplies for less cost to you and them with a mail order prescription. Otherwise, you can ask your doctor for some extras at your visit. With natural medicines, you can store some extras of those most important for you. Just be sure to watch their expiration dates as well and I follow the motto of my father from our family grocery store way back when: Rotate and Rejuvenate. In other words, keep things fresh and do not keep the oldest stuff in the back. This is also important for your refrigerators and cupboards as well.
8. Financial Considerations. Do you have some cash available at home (even some hidden in your car)? Many people nowadays live through plastic and count on electrical debits and credits. Yet, what happens without electricity or phones or ATMs? Cash is gold in a time of crisis. We are all concerned with the financial state of our country and the world right now. Are the banks and governments stable? If we are concerned about personal investments and stability, diversity is the wisest choice these days.
9. Individual Roles. What is your role at home, at work, or in your local community if there is some disaster? Some world communities focus on this. Of course, we will all typically do whatever we can to help ourselves, our family, and our community, or anyone based on where we are. It is basic human nature to want to help; but also basic human nature to care for ourselves and loved ones, and to survive. When we are prepared, we are more able to take care of others.
10. Summary Review. Prepare for the most likely disaster in your area. Is it an earthquake, flood, or fire? Or more possibly a volcano eruption or avalanche? We all have something that Mother Nature could impose on us when she does her thing, or that humans may create in our neighborhoods or airports. We have all been stuck somewhere, some time. Be prepared. The American Red Cross has sheets for many natural events, such as earthquakes. There are also local handouts in your city commonly to help get your thinking and households organized. Use the resources you have, and bring your community together at home and at work. It may be worth it.
Do not be sorry, be safe and prepared!
As eco-poetess Argisle says, Do not be scared, be prepared!

Bolster Your Brain’s Ability To Remember

Working Memory loss

Message body

Memory loss is one of the downers of getting older. If life were fair, more rich experiences would mean more rich memories. But, of course, the brain ages too, and its ability to retain and relish often wanes.
There are, however, some great natural ways to bolster your brain’s ability to remember. Here they are:
Eat Regularly — The brain is only 2-3 percent of the body’s weight, but takes up 20 percent of its energy, so giving it the fuel it needs helps it function optimally.
Super Foods — Spinach, strawberries and blueberries are called “super foods” because they strengthen the brain. Eat lots of them.
Drink Hot Beverages — Tea and coffee stimulate the brain and help it access memories more effectively.
Avoid Alcohol – Like it or not, booze is bad for the brain’s memory banks.
Take Vitamins — A good regimen of supplements, especially folic acid, will help you remember better.
Herbalize — A variety of herbs, such as gingko biloba, have been shown to help improve memory retention.
Stress Less — Trying to alleviate stress in your life, through relaxation or meditation, helps your brain retain.
Play More Games — Mental games, like crossword puzzles and Sudoku, sharpen your faculties.
Exercise — Many reasons to do this, one of which is it keeps your brain healthy.
Get Regular Sleep — Getting your slumbers on a regular schedule is good for your noggin.
You can read more in-depth description and medical citations about these remedies at LifeScript.com.
Bottom line: A life full of activities that strengthen your mind is a life more fully lived and more finely recalled.
